The Challenge

Sept. 19 through Dec. 12, 2013

  • The AARP DC Black Men’s 12-Week Fitness Challenge.  Measured by the size of your waist.
  • Encourages and promotes a healthy lifestyle through healthy eating and physical activity
  • Offers motivation
  • Builds morale, reduces stress, encourages group activity, and helps you enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle
  • Re-measure again at the end of 12 weeks.

How to get started:

  • Sign-up online with your group at and pledge: I agree to join the “12-week Black Men's Fitness Challenge” and taking steps to a healthier lifestyle. I have read and agree to the Rules & Regulations.

Participant Instructions:

  • Complete and submit Online Registration for your group
  • Update daily your online Tracking Form
  • Update weekly your online Profile Form
  • Measure your waist (follow direction on website)
  • Become familiar with your pedometer
  • Each day you will keep track of your servings of fruits and vegetables, minutes of physical activity, steps taken, and water consumed

Daily Point System
  • 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables = 1 point
  • 30 or more minutes of moderate to intense physical activity = 1 point
  • 6 or more 8 ounces glasses of water = 1 point
  • 10,000 steps in a day = 1 point

Reminder notes:
  • Use the Workout video for your fitness level 3 days a week
  • Take advantage of the information provided in the weekly Diet video
  • Enter your points on your Tracking Form
  • Enter your points on your Profile Form
  • Utilize weekly emails with helpful fitness workouts, diet tips, motivation, and progress reports.
