Waist size and risk of health problems




Tape Measure:

  • Place a tape measure around your bare abdomen 1 inch above the naval. Record measurement.

You have a higher risk of health problems if your waist size is:

  • more than (37 inches), if you’re a man
  • more than (31.5 inches), if you’re a woman even

Your risk of health problems is higher if your waist size is:

  • more than (40 inches), if you’re a man
  • more than (34.5 inches), if you’re a woman 

A protruding stomach has 2 types of fat.

    1. Subcutaneous fat lies between the abdominal muscle and your skin. This is the fat you can see and grab.
    2. Visceral fat surrounds the vital organs. Visceral fat is biologically active -- secreting hormones and various other chemical into your body.
